Hey, I’ve been here before! Yes- the journey has finally come fully circle and landed me in Auckland, New Zealand. From here I start all over again, visiting Queenstown, Christchurch, Wellington…
Just kidding- this is actually just the random few days that I left open at the end of the trip. Originally I had purchased a 2-month round trip ticket from San Francisco to Auckland thinking I would be in New Zealand the whole 2 months. Then (as you dedicated readers know) I decided a week before the trip to visit Australia for the second month. Since round trip flights from Auckland to Sydney are super cheap (less than $300), I decided to just hold onto my original return ticket and stay in Auckland for a few extra days.
I will admit- it is quite strange being back here. On one hand it’s nice that I know my way around town already, but on the other hand, it’s the first time I will have visited a city in the last 3 months where there’s not much I want to see. Prior to this stretch, I’ve been in Auckland a total of 8 nights (1 on the day I flew in, 7 at the end of March), so I’ve hit the major attractions and sites pretty hard at this point.
The good news about Auckland is that since it is a fairly large city (1.5 million people), there’s plenty of fun places to hangout, eat, and drink in the city. I’m staying at different Airbnb than last time, but I’m still right in the heart of the downtown Auckland, so everything is within walking distance. I also tried taking the Airport Shuttle Bus this time (last time I took an Uber)- it is definitely the way to go. It can drop you off anywhere between the Airport and downtown for $18. A Cab costs around $65-70 and an Uber is $50-55.
Anyways- most of my remaining itinerary is wide open, but I do have something big planned for tomorrow that I booked a few weeks ago- so as long as it does not rain- expect a fun blog post tomorrow!
Cheers,
Morgan
